This area deals with the detection, coordination, and resolution of civil incidents. These incidents can range from the routine (traffic accidents, civil disturbances, fires) to the rare (plane crashes), to the catastrophic (epidemics, terrorist attacks). Despite advances in information technology, many incidents are still managed the old fashioned way: using phones, radios, and blackboards. While effective, these procedures fall short in terms of efficient distribution of information in a timely manner. SA-Sys is at the forefront of using information technologies to facilitate coordination and collaboration during all phases of an incident. This includes using sophisticated data mining systems for incident detection, web services for automated notification of personnel, and web-based technologies to provide everyone with a secure, shared picture of the unfolding situation. In addition, information captured during the incident can be used to automatically generate NIMS-compliant reports. The Common Operational Picture (COP) is our flagship product in the incident response management area. The COP is being developed under a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract with the US Army. You can preview the COP by following this
